Hello,
i was thinking about a mage/fighter template. But before i will make it happen, i would like to run it through you guys.
Focus of this build should be on PvM.

Race: Gargoyle

Skills:
Magery                                   120
Evaluate intelligence /Mysticism  120
Meditation/Focus                      120
Resisting spells                        120
Tactics                                    120
Chivalry/Anatomy                     120
(720)

Stats:
Strength     100
Dexterity     80
Intelligence  80
(260)

Equipment:
Weapon (throwing or melee) : Mana leech/(something) slayer, mage weapon, spell channeling, damage increase, swing speed increase/hit area damage.
Suit: LRC, LMC, Full resist, Mana regen, mana/health increase.
Jewelry: Magery skill bonus, Damage increase, spell damage increase, hit chance increase, Intelligence/dexterity bonus.

So, what do you think? Could this work? Would it be effective? If so, is it better to use chivalry or anatomy? Use eval and med or Mystic and focus?

Thank you all in advance for your much needed input. :)

Simple:
You won't hit a single thing without a weapon-skill!
If you go for a mage weapon the Tactics is wasted in the sence that you only receive additional damage, but cannot use specials (which are the key to successful PvM or PvP).

So think it over ;)

Well... the mage weapon is the key to the build... I know that i would not be able to hit even a sheep without it :). But the thing is... Is it better to go for a weapon skill to have the weapon abilities?... or is it better to use chivalry? I dont know if the weapon skills are so important for PvM if i would back it up with offensive mystic spells and colossus. And use chivalry to boost my damage. But, yes i see that for PvP the weapon skill is a must have... on the other hand i get to PvP rarely and 99% of the time i run after a while. What do you think?

Wolfman

As stated before: Weapon specials are key to high end successful PvM: Whirlwind, Armor Ignore, Feint, just to name a few.

Nergal

You are right. I did some research on the weapon skills and they are needed indeed. Since i dont see much of a damage if i were to swich chivalry for throwing... I will drop this template. It was just an idea. Damn... its hard to build a good all around template. Thanks for your advice.

Hi Nergal,

Princess Nikki was having a similar issue wanting to have a character that was well rounded in both PvM and PvP.  As a human she went with the Mystic Archer.  I think as a Gargoyle you could be effective switching out archery for throwing.  Both Morgan and Hoffs would have more detailed information as far as template and then modifying to meet your specific needs.

What would be a suggestion for a mystic archer template?  That sounds fun.

Nergal

Mystic thrower sounds nice... But i would hate to lose magery... Kind of like the things it brings to the table. I can only asume that it would go like:

Throwing             120
Mysticism            120
Focus                 120
Resisting spells     120
Tactics               120
Chivalry              120
(720)

Thing is... Right now i am Mystic/Mage and it seems to me, that the damage is not all that great and his way of fight is kind of passive. Mana is a constant issue that prevents him from the serious damage dealing. I would like to create some kind of more offensive build that still has the ability to summon and to disrupt. Also to back the offensive with spells. To be honest... Iam a bit lost in it. Never played anything but mage since the ultima beginning. Yea maybe once when Samurai empire came out i tried out some samurai build... But nothing serious.

Ok, I guess it is time to earn my share as the "template builder" around here:
You are a gargoyle mystic/mage!
You want to have more "umpfh" to you template, ok here is my "aproach" (would never play a mage):
120 Myst
120 Focus
120 Magery
120 Throwing
90Tactics
100 Chivalry
50 Bushido
(this is assuming you have magery at 120 and you do not want to drop it to 100, which if you do, would lead to 90 chivalry and 80 bushido)
Stats would look somewhere like:
120 Str
120 Dex
20 Int
For this to be realy fun and tear things up (for example soloing the slasher) you would need high-higher-highest end eqipment, but in general this idea can work quiet well:
First of all you need to lose the idea of a "huge mana-pool": you will be stuck somewhere between 60-80.
The soul glaive (throwing weapon) will be your friend here, with mana leech on it you will have a steady supply of mana.
A stone suit for the 55LMC also helps (no need for medable since you use Focus and not meditation to regenerate mana).
In areas like a spawn or fighting the big bad end bosses you should be in stone form (that way you are imune to curses, poison and all that spell trash (carry a trapped box to break para)...only thing that sucks is mana vamp, but... *looks at soul glaive*.... one or two good throws and you are back at full!
You send in the colossus!
You assist it with armor ignore throws from your soul glaive (chivalry spells: consecregate weapon, Divine Fury and Enemy of one add to damage, end Mobs should be honored first (1 reason for Bushido))
Your main healing method is the healing stone from your myst spells+bushido's confidence on the run+chivalry close wounds and the poison cure+your magery spells+cleansing winds
Invis precast from magery can get you anywhere you want to go....

Would be fun template to play!
*closes his shutters and goes on a three month vacation because of all the suit and weapon questions that will come*

To second Morgan's template, if you use it on the pvp side and join the Virtue Patrol, that template gives you many options...

You can invis on altar and dismount enemies approaching

You could also cross heal very with both the mystic and mage abilities

You can summon to help defend the altar.

   You can dispel

   Teleport

   field

Endless ways to use the character depending on what you like to do,

This sounds amazing... thank you Morgan. You are the man :). I will not bother you with equip questions... I have only one and its about the the lock box... I know, that resist spells is a good thing to have. but in case of not having it you can reduce the problems by orange petals, stone form and a lock box. The last thing being the most important. I heard that you can create an always trapped lockbox. Using this approach:

"to make things easy for you i suggest useing a Large wooden crate the square one it will not bug up like the rectangle ones do

step one make box with a carpenter but try to have small amount of tinkering 30 be ideal i expect though may need to make a few to get a lockable one.

step 2 make trap again lower tinker skill the better for this part get min skill and use a talisman with tinker bouns to help with success trap the box

step 3 lock it put it on the floor of your house and secure it

step 4 use a decoration tool and turn the box one time

step 5 unsecure it cast unlock then you should have a trap box that will allways stay traped for you with low dmg output.

So carpentry and tinker needed any carpentry above large crate will do and you want low as you can go for tinker 30 is your goal i think."

Is this possible? Another good thing about this template would be that the only 120 power scroll i would need is throwing. + I would add blacksmith to my soulstone collection someday soon.

House Vernia is responsible for crafting questions! ;)
(To be honest: NO CLUE!)

Nergal

Do you know someone from Vernia that i can reach and discuss this thing?
