Last year at DragonCon I was on a typical panel (I've done variations on this one at too many conventions, imho).  The moderator was an old friend of mine, Keith, and he recorded the panel.  He was not quite as skilled/experienced as some moderators I've seen, but all in all, he did pretty well.  You may find the tape of the panel here:

In the still shot, I am the chick on the left.  In the tape, my voice is the one that starts talking about paramilitary groups and then later about firefighting.  (So you can figure out which one is me.)

Anyway.  So this is the type of thing I do when I go to conventions.

P.S.  This thing is about an hour long!  (You've been warned.  You can always abandon it mid-panel.)

When I got home from work last night, I discovered my U-Verse modem couldn't find the internet.    (I am currently connected via my cell phone's hot spot.)  This morning it was still out, so I did an internet search and it appears that AT&T is having issues across the country.  So if I am absent for a few days, that is why.  

11/13/13 evening Update:  I spoke to AT&T today and they confirmed that there is some kind of issue outside my house.  But, of course, they assume that it's *right* outside my house (which is probably not the issue) and thus, must send a tech out - when I am home.  (Good luck with *that*!)  Anyway, thus a tech is supposed to show up Saturday morning and until then, I will either not be playing or playing very, very low-key (as in I cannot go out and hunt or work on my Sacrifice skills, etc.).  Perhaps it's time for Camriel to work on his music skills. . . . .

So this is what I was doing last weekend.  Sorry I didn't get these photos up earlier, but it took me a while to "dig out" from the convention.  I drove over on Thursday, as did my convention roommates Beth and Gena.  Beth had to perform Thursday night, so we were scrambling!  Despite the size of the room (it was *huge*), there was a good crowd.  She had performances every day and sold $1,200 worth of CDs.

Me, I just had one panel on Friday, but then I played "executive assistant" to my editor the rest of the weekend.  It allowed me to sit in and participate in some very interesting business discussions and to make connections with a producer (as in 'movies') and a comics/graphics producer (as in graphic novels).  The parade was Saturday.  Oh, and Miriam (who you really cannot see in the photo, but you can clearly see the tank) is the Goth wife of author John Ringo and a friend.

Last night when I shut down my less-than-6 months old computer, Windows installed 18 "critical" updates.  Yeah, I'll say they were 'critical' - now when I boot up the machine I get an error "Windows sockets initialization failed."

I have brought the machine to work today (a Dell 15R laptop) and will spend some 'quality' time on the phone with Dell, I am sure.  But at least I can download drivers and stuff here at work and transfer them over to the laptop.

UO Guide has the scoop on this year's Halloween stuff.  It looks like they will have Halloween cloth again.  I will definitely be out begging in plain robes and cloaks with the hope of being 'tricked'!

Last night there was an issue with the "remote server" which I imagine means whatever UO server it is I log into here from south Louisiana.  After extensive checking, I determined that it was not anything on my computer or with my internet connection.  I've now contacted EA via their support email and received their auto-response stating they will get back to me within 3 days.  (Time for them to recover from their hangovers after the 15th anniversary party, lol.)

I also must attend a local convention next weekend - CONtraflow II in Kenner, Louisiana (http://www.contraflowscifi.org/ for those curious - you'll find me listed under Guests - Bolesny), so if they don't get this fixed sooner than 3 days, I might be out of commission until a week from now.  (So much for my town loyalty and virtues, sigh.)

BTW, the error I am getting is a patch error:
The patch client encountered corruption in the file [patcher.prod.sig] on the remote server. Please try the patch operation again.

Oh well.  Here's hoping no one else is afflicted with this error message.

Does anyone have one?  Willing to pay for it.  Mariko needs a better bed - her old one is messing up her back.

Many tools on Siege have uses - and we are all fine with that. But salvage bags are not supposed to have uses and never have - until recently.

The problem is that apparently the number of uses consumed depends on how much is in the bag - the more stuff there is, the more charges used. Which means that in *very* short order, one's salvage bag is useless.

This is particularly a problem for new players who might come over to Siege because they are the ones who will most likely wish to heavily use a salvage bag. (And they are not cheap on Siege.)

Why do I think this is a glitch/bug? Well, for starters, some characters' bags still do not show charges, while other characters' bags *do* now show charges - even though they did not show charges before and even though both characters have used their salvage bags since this glitch popped up.

I think this slipped in on the publish before this last one.

I do know that all of the crafters on Siege are unhappy about this glitch. It doesn't sound like much, but it surely can be when you are out in the field or if one is starting a new character on Siege.

Tonight I will file a bug report on it in game.

The authorities want you to know: If you placed your boat near the place Blackthorn's old castle was standing, please remove it before tomorrow, Wednesday July 11th, at midnight EDT. If your boat isn't removed, it might get buried and destroyed in some landscaping works that are about to happen in that area.

Not that anyone I know has a boat around Blackthorne's castle atm.  But it will be interesting to see what-all happens tomorrow!

I thought I had a squirrel that was trying to take up residence in one of my walls.  So I set out a trap, baited with peanut butter.  It took a few days, but I finally caught the critter.  Only problem is it wasn't a squirrel!!






Yikes!  Look at those teeth!  So now I've called our Wildlife & Fisheries folks, because they deal with "nuisance wildlife."  I surely did not expect to catch a possum!

I empathize with you over the current situation though it could be worse… Imagine the waterfall being a gigantic bird bath for the parrots… Lots of sqawking and ungodly amounts of bird droppings everywhere. Perhaps I am looking at the glass half full in saying that, but I would drop by the closest cotton field and make some legendary ear muffs in hopes of catching a few ZZZzzz’s.

Apparently they can (and will) *spawn* Exedus Minions!  Maybe not yet (depending on our story arc), but apparently it can happen.

So beware!  (Snagged this post from Tina on the Stratics UHall board - it was buried in another thread.)  But you should be able to find more info on this on the Stratics UHall board.  Sounds like the players might be playing into the hands of the event thread, lol.

Well, if they do want to know where some of those nexus are placed, there appears to be one near the NW corner of Luna on Napa. Was running around researching some stuff on the Abyss and used the teleporter tile to get out of the Warden house and landed in a house in Luna and was staring right at an ugly exodus minion that wanted my head!! Was glad I had a flute handy to lull it a bit and make a fast get-away. LOL

I have agreed to take Razz Manor.  As a result, I will be dropping Mariko's house in Tokuno (east of town, along the shoreline), and I will either drop or trade Adrianas' house, which is located close to the mountain, south-southeast of the Loot House in GIL Town.  If you have not seen Adrianas' house, it's nice (if I do say so myself).  On the plus side, there is a nice roof for growing plants, a jacuzzi in the private bath on the third floor, and a dancing pole in the bar, located on the second floor.  Oh, and a bathroom is also supplied on the second floor (for the convenience of the bar patrons).  On the minus side, there are a couple of walls on the ground floor which can be "shot through."  I've not had any serious issues with that other than the occasional wisp who decides to cheat.  (There are also 5 secret doors in this design. )

If anyone is interested, I would take out some items, but would leave all the balcony plants and most of the furniture.  Images are below:








Razz and I are hoping to start playing "shuffle the houses" sometime this weekend.
